Yesterday was day one of the 15 Habits of Great Writers Challenge. It was a declaration to myself.
Today’s challenge?
Believe.
In yesterday’s post I wrote: How can I expect others to believe something which I do not believe about myself? Now that I’ve declared myself a writer I need to act like I believe it!
How?
By making it a priority in my life.
Currently, I prioritize my life around the responsibilities of who I am—child of God, wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. I must continue to fulfill each of those roles, but there is another one to add to that list.
I am a writer.
Saying it is one thing, believing is another.
Believing that I am the writer I claim to be involves setting aside time every day to write. Writing should not be an afterthought; it shouldn’t be pushed aside until I think I may have more time.
I must make time.
When?
Two hours earlier than my normal rising time!
No, this wasn’t my personal idea, it is part of tomorrow’s challenge. Jeff Goins wants those of us who are writers to prove that we believe it, by getting up two hours earlier than we normally would.
Why?
To write.
Because saying is easy and believing is necessary.
But doing?
Doing is key.

I love your blog, and it is so true about making time to write. I am planning to do the same in the morning. http://writewhatyouknowdotorg.wordpress.com/
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comments and for stopping by; I enjoyed reading your post as well! =) Yes...it's all about making the time to write.
DeleteSo glad you are doing thus too. Not sure how tomorrow morning will work, but I'm giving it a shot. Priorities can be hard to establish.
ReplyDeleteYeah, things like that can be crazy with young children! How'd it go for you?
DeleteGood post- how did the early thing go? I was thinking I'd be a zombie (I am not a morning person) but I was actually able to think coherently...lol. And the kids were still sleeping, which helps immensely! :)
ReplyDelete"Believing that I am the writer I claim to be involves setting aside time every day to write."
ReplyDeleteYes! I love this. Setting aside time to write is why I blog. Having a blog helps keep me accountable. It makes me sit down and write every day.
I'm so glad you're on this writer's journey too! (By the way, how did the the two-hours-early thing go?) Yikes. I'm afraid I haven't done that yet. :)
