As I was being pushed in a wheelchair down the hallway leading to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to see my baby daughter for the first time, the faces of children in poster-size photographs smiled down on me being wheeled by. Little did I know how often I would be seeing these photos, or how in the days, weeks, and even months ahead I would come to view each one as its own ray of hope down the otherwise gloomy hallway.

In that moment I had no idea of the six month roller-coaster ride that lay before us, and I never dreamed that the end of the NICU journey would mark the beginning of another one.

This Journey Our Life

Six months after our daughter’s miraculous birth we left the NICU journey behind, only to embark on a different one, a journey we’ve been traveling now for eight years.

This journey has taken us down a different—and longer—corridor than the one we walked numerous times during our daughter’s hospitalization.

This journey is our life of parenting a special needs child.

Is this the path you find yourself trudging along? If so, my heart wants to reach out to hug yours.

I want you to know that I care.

Because I’ve been walking this journey for the past eight years myself, I know how you feel. I want to reach out to you, offering the encouragement and support for which you long.

During the next 30 Days I will post daily on a variety of topics with one focus in mind: supporting you as the parent of your special needs child.

I shared our story as a way of introduction because I want you to know I’m right there along side of you, walking a similar path to your own.

This journey?
